Natural and human-modified landscapes have influenced both my professional career as a forester and my interest in painting. Sources of inspiration and material include the coast of Maine where I live, landscapes of Vermont and the South Coast of Massachusetts that are rooted in family history, and the mountains, lakes, rivers, and shorelines that I visit while working, travelling in the wilderness, or when hiking, canoeing, and hunting. I need to experience and get to know a landscape before I can paint it well, and my paintings attempt to interpret and record the feelings that these places instill in me.
New England’s rich heritage of landscape painting, competent instructors, and other artist friends have inspired and encouraged me along the way. My paintings have been exhibited in the both solo and group shows and are included in private collections.
