Helping firewood discover its inner beauty

If you burn wood, you know that some pieces are difficult to split or impossible to stack. Those chunks, mostly burls, gauls, crotches, and collars, are a wonderful challenge.

I carve in a free-form manner to help each chunk of wood tell its own story. My goal is for each piece to be visually attractive from any angle and delightful to handle. Most pieces can be positioned or assembled in multiple orientations.

I primarily carve Maine hardwoods, including apple, ash, beech, birch, cherry, lilac, locust, maple and pear.

I have found an artistic home in the Bowdoinham Guild of Artisans. I display at the Guild’s Holiday Sale, at local art walks & festivals and at the Cathance River Gallery.
